How about a trip to Bhutan

Bhutan Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

This small, Himalayan nation in central southern Asia is the highest nation on earth by average elevation, with no point below 200m and the vast majority of the country well above 2,000m. Its peaks soar to well over 7,000m and are snow-capped year round, making for spectacular hiking and walking, with the accompanying deep valleys and gorges to match. It is known for its monasteries and fortresses and ornately designed buildings which are commonplace in its capital, Thimphu, itself situated in a deep valley surrounded by forests and peaks. The south of the country is lower and covered in dense jungle and rainforest, with very few means of transportation and few large settlements. The resulting options for tourists are limited… and yet almost unmatched. If you’re after a chilled beach-based holiday, or partying mecca, this physically couldn’t be further from your desires, but anything where natural wonders, extensive history, ornate archiectural backdrops and astonishing sightseeing are on your agenda, there are few countries on earth that can match this small, but perfectly formed country!

WeatherAbout the Weather

High altitude and mountainous Bhutan, like Nepal, has 2 distinct seasons. A mild-by-day and cold-by-night dry season, from Oct to Apr, with very little rain / snow and bright or sunny skies and a warm, but very wet and very cloudy summer (May to Sep), with orographic monsoon rainfall being intensified here due to the terrain, after passing over Bangladesh and northeast India. Temperatures reach a peak during the wet season averaging 25°c in Jul and Aug and daytime lows of 12°c during Jan, with nights well below 0°c in Dec and Jan.
