How about a trip to Australia Southern SA

Australia Southern SA Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

This is the green corner of South Australia and within 20-30 miles of the coastline here, farming is king. With mile-after-mile of farmland and vineyards, enshrouding the regions largest (and only large) city, Adelaide. Just south of Adelaide, you have Long Bay, and overlooking this an exceptional beach of well over 100km in length, but one that, except for the northern and southernmost reaches, has all-but nothing along it to use or see or do, making it one of the worlds longest, but least frequented beaches, backing onto huge, open lagoons and sand dunes. Adelaide is a city of just over 1 million people and visits here are not for those seeking endless nightlife, it is a quieter city than the other big 4 in Australia and one more for ambling around and appreciating the churches, gardens and parkland, rather than its bars and nightclubs. But if you want wining and dining, Adelaide can certainly help you on that score

WeatherAbout the Weather

For most of the year, Adelaide has a decidedly Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry, sunny summers and mild, bright-but-rainy winters. There are differences however. The city sees more rainfall during its summer months (November to March) that would be expected of a typical Mediterranean climate, but it also experiences frequent and intense heatwaves, several times a year. During these hot spells Adelaide is often the hottest city in Australia and one of the hottest on earth, particularly from December to February with temperatures regularly topping 45°c. Outside of these extreme events, highs of 28°c are likely, but with cooler nights than might be expected, averaging just 16°c. Sunshine levels are high throughout the summer though, often exceeding 9.5 hours a day. Winters are mild (averaging 16°c from June to August by day and 7.5°c by night), with frequent, but often light rain. Heavy rain and winter storms in the city are not as common as most locations with a Mediterranean climate, but sunshine levels are about 5 hours a day, about where you’d expect in winter months.
