How about a trip to Peru West Coast

Peru West Coast Dec

SummaryA Brief Summary

Lima, Peru’s capital city, is situated on Peru’s western coasts, right alongside the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean. So it has some incredible beaches then? Well… no, in fact it has very little in the way of beach life or beach frontage. Sat atop cliffs for the most part, Lima is a large, seaside city with little beachfront, but some truly spectacular sunsets! In times gone by Lima was considered a little underwhelming for tourists and merely a place you had to come through to get to Machu Picchu. But things have changed. Lima’s glorious architecture and colonial past now merges beautifully with its modern facades and it’s culture and rich history are now worthy of their own exploration. After which you’ll want to find somewhere to dine as this is the place in Peru for eating out and experiencing everything Peruvian cuisine has to offer, of which seafood is, given it’s location, unsurprisingly superb.
Away from Lima, a popular tourist haunt, although a very small oasis, literally, is Huacachina, a true desert oasis a couple of hours outside Lima and a perfect day trip and the only oasis in the entirety of South America. The rest of the coast is rugged, hilly or mountainous and contains a large number of small towns and villages, most important and worthy of your time being Trujillo to the north of the capital, with fabulous beaches, Incan ruins and great food
Away from the tourist-centred highlands, the capital, Lima,

WeatherAbout the Weather

Sitting on the Pacific Coast, Peru’s capital, Lima, has a very unusual climate. Temperatures year-round are warm or hot as a result of it’s tropical location, ranging from 19-20°c in August, to 26-27°c in February, with nights generally 5°c lower. The city’s location, at the north end of the cold Humboldt current originating at the foot of south America and transporting cold water all the way to the equator, gives rise to the exceptionally cloudy conditions prevailing from June to November. During this time skies are barely clear for an hour a day, with thick fog and drizzle common, and sunshine almost non-existent. Skies brighten a little in December, and from January to mid-May, the weather is very sunny with very little cloud cover. Rainfall is scarce year-round and the city can go many months without any significant falls, with the only reliable fresh water for the city coming in the way of fog that clings to plant life during the early morning. Temperatures can reach 30°c in nearly every month of the year, but rarely higher and nights below 12°c are unusual, despite the cloudy conditions during the middle of the year. While heavy rain is very, very rare, any such events cause local flooding due to the drainage systems simply not being designed to cope with any substantial volumes of water.
